Awakening the Dawn: People of the First Light

Jon & Jolene Hamill

John & Jolene HamillIn a recent Elijah List posting, we wrote about a fresh move of God to cleanse His people of generational bondage.  Zechariah 3 is a picture of this, with Joshua the High Priest being released from the ‘filthy garments’ of generational sin and re-mantled with fresh garments and a restored commissioning.

Words cannot express the sense of awe Jolene and I have felt as we shared this word in recent trips to New England, and literally watched the Hand of God move in healing and deliverance.  He loves to bring freedom to His cherished ones!

Freedom from Embedded Grief

Two clear directives have emerged from these ministry times.  First, God is washing away embedded grief from His people.  In this season many have just become aware that they are carrying grief or sorrow in their hearts.  If this is you--God has allowed you to connect with the pain because His heart aches for your healing.  Ask Him to fully heal you, to wash away any residue of embedded grief.

While ministering on this, the Lord led Jolene to take up one of the most unusual offerings we have ever seen.  We all gave our best.  Soon the offering bucket was overflowing--with tear-soaked Kleenex!

God was telling us that if we would sow in tears, we would reap in joy.  If you’re in this season, God wants you to know that your spent tissues are the most valuable and precious offering you can place before His Throne.  Pour out your heart to Him, even with tears.   I pray that you will be refreshed with joy as the Lord crosses you over into His new season for you.

Rending the Garments of Grief

The second directive on God’s heart is significantly related to the first.  The Spirit of God showed me that the restoration prophesied in Zechariah 3 is a direct picture of His “now” work on behalf of Native Americans.

Let me give you some perspective on this.  For eleven years I have been watching over, and praying into, a word given by Kenneth Copeland regarding Native Americans.  In a vision he saw a dark cloud over the entirety of North America.  He wrote that this cloud was a garment of grief, addiction and oppression over Native American people.

As Brother Copeland began to cry out in intercession, he saw the hand of the Lord come to the far northeastern part of the United States and rend this terrible garment all the way across the nation.  Tremendous light poured in as this garment was torn off, and a covenant people awakened. Brother Copeland watched the Lord introduce Himself to Native tribes as King of kings, Lord of Lords, and Chief of chiefs--as their Creator—and prophesied a coming season of reconciliation and restitution on behalf of tribes across the land.

What a picture of Zechariah 3!

When you think of God’s hand moving among Native Americans, you probably think of Alaska, or Kansas, or Florida, or Indiana... but probably not the northeast.  Why would God’s hand come to the ‘far northeastern part of the US’--to New England?

I personally believe it’s because this is where the Pilgrims and Native Americans first came into covenant--with the Lord and with each other.  And it’s from New England that the grief over lost heritage due to covenant-breaking has been so greatly empowered.

People of the First Light

Amazingly, the first Native tribe reached with the gospel by the Pilgrims were the Wampanoags, whose name literally means ‘the people of the first light.’  They welcomed the Pilgrims in much the same way that Melchizadek greeted Abraham--with hospitality, blessing and provision that kept them alive during their first winter.

As God moved in their midst, He gave them such a passion for His presence that they soon became known as “praying Indians.”  How prophetic that they were called “People of the First Light”-- those who awaken the dawn!

Unfortunately, the descendents of the Pilgrims did not keep the covenants their fathers established.  Please remember that these covenants were made between Christians--between brothers, bought by the same Precious Blood!

Angels of Covenant

Elijah List readers may be familiar with a recent posting by my friend Danny Steyne, which recounted a recent visitation where a New England pastor was shown ‘angels of fire’ now poised to bring forth the fullness of this emerging awakening.  I happened to be ministering on the night of Pastor Caraballo's visitation.  Here is his description:

“He (The Lord) introduced me to the angels of FIRE. He told me that these were the Lord’s COVENANT angels. He said that power is released when they combine and work together.”

It is significant that these angels of fire are ‘angels of covenant.’  I believe this grace of the Lord for awakening and societal transformation is part of our covenantal heritage and destiny as a nation.  In fact the Lord gave me the phrase “Covenantal Awakening” to describe His present move.

As a descendent of the Pilgrims, who covenanted with the Lord for this land, let me be very clear: There is no such thing as Covenantal Awakening without the justice of our Creator being manifested to restore honor, heritage, freedom and destiny to our brothers and sisters in the Native American community, just as Kenneth Copeland has prophesied.  Just as with Joshua in Zechariah 3, The Lord is rebuking satan, breaking off the garments of generational grief, oppression and addiction and remantling His people to fulfill their God-given destiny.  The praying Indians are arising again!

No More Delay

Regarding this promise, I am reminded of the picture in Revelation 10:6 of an angel swearing by oath “no more delay.”  With all my heart, I believe the word of the Lord over this promised work is “no more delay.”  It is literally as though these angels that Pastor Carabollo saw, angels of covenant assigned to help bring forth this move of awakening, have been inspired to make a similar oath before the Ancient of Days.  A new move of deliverance is now at hand. NO MORE DELAY-- the time is now!

Wampanoag Fire

In this awakening, the Hand of the Lord is coming to the Wampanoag tribe, as well as other tribes in the land.  In the night seasons, many among you will come face to face with your Creator.  You will see that you were created in His image, brought forth from the fire in His eyes.

Many among you will awaken in the morning and wonder “what just happened to me?  For in my heart a weight has lifted, and I feel free.”  This is my work, says the Lord--the work of My Hand!

Also a unique happening will soon become the talk of the people.  For the Lord will blow again on Nantucket and Cape Cod, and even in governmental cities across the land to disperse the cloud of death that has held your heritage in desolation.  Your dry bones will live, says the Lord.  People of the Dawn, your best days are just ahead.  No man can deny you your Name, says the Lord--for it is written on the palm of My Hand.

Great Ball of Fire

To close this word, I’d like to recount another portion of the posting by Danny Steyne of Pastor Caraballo’s visitation.  He wrote:

“Jon Hamill said that some people had FIRE in their hands, and they needed to pray for the person that was next to them. An angel turned, looked at me, and threw a ball of fire at me--I was able to catch it in my right hand. The angel then reached over and put his hand in the ball of FIRE and said to me, ‘How much do you want this ball of FIRE?’ I replied, ‘Very much.’”

I strongly doubt that Pastor Caraballo had any idea of this, but what he was seeing dramatically mirrors a game indigenous to the Wampanoag Indians.  The game is literally called “Fireball.”  It’s kind of like soccer, except in their case the ball is literally on fire.  Tribal men toss the ball to team members to advance towards the goal—very similar to the interaction Pastor Caraballo described between him and the angel.

I believe the Angel of the Lord—this Angel of Covenant, this Angel of Holy Fire—is asking us the same question he asked Pastor Caraballo.  How much do you want this fire of awakening?  There’s a goal to be made—and there may be pain and sacrifice involved.

Mirroring the One whose pain brought our healing, please stand in the gap for the Wampanoags, and for Native Americans across the land, to again be awakened by the fire of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As Kenneth Copeland saw—let the Hand of the Lord now come!
